Well yeah but you and whatever other guy added like 10 pages every night when everyone else was asleep.

Playing devil's advocate here I guess but I feel the restrictions are necessary. Sure, Joey might be a little nitpicky about certain grammatical errors but he only wants to make sure that our RP experience is of good quality. I can agree with some of the characters he didn't allow in (not gonna lie, but especially Mechdragon's).

I really think this argument is kinda dumb though and only shows that we are yet again incapable of cooperating on something because we always have to turn it into a big show, eh? Dig at each other for the littlest things? That sorta shit?

Anyhow, I will be posting my character soon.
The ten oages a night; not sure if that was true or not.
FanofSMBX wrote:Let me state a few things. Draw your own conclusion.
1. Kōri is way overpowered.
Not at first, and I never won a foght with her
2. TUA was fun and exhilarating.
It honestly was
3. TUA was only civilized because everybody made sure not to spoil the broth. It could have went south earlier.
What doe this mean
4. TUA is rather cringeworthy and I wouldn't show it to anyone I wanted to be professional with.
Do you mean a provesinal RP?
5. TUA was popular because it operated on trust. Trust that you would change an OP post. Trust that you would play the setting straight and not as a joke. Trust that you would be fair to the other players.
I did like that, and I think it turned out well
6. Joey seems to be putting his guard up, which is a rather uneasy stance.
Agreeed
7. Some RPs from earlier were just structure less, which is what TUA could have been.
It did, the story was made by the people who participated!

Well, now my character seems fully developed, but you still said it's "overpowered".
Joey wrote:RE: we aren't writing a novel - The "this isn't an English class so I shouldn't have to use proper English" argument doesn't work here, sorry. In the IRC? Yeah, but not here.
I'm sorry, but I had minor mess ups and you complained about those. Even if I still had those errors in my writing, people would still understand what I was trying to say.

Other then that, I have no other complaints.

Name: Pleonexus
Gender: Male
Age: Ancient
Species: Dry Magikoopa

Appearance: Pleonexus looks like a normal Dry Bones, though he is stained a stark white from sun exposure in contrast to the standard grey color most Bones have. Two luminescent amber bullets float eerily where his eyes used to sit in his hollow skull. His long, royal purple robes are tattered and frayed with tears but despite the damage it could be noted that the gold embroidered regalia is of high quality, which is likely why it survived the desert at all. The staff he carries, his favorite artifact, consists of a long iron rod wrapped in leather up until a few inches from the head. The scepter is embedded with a large chunk of cut Citrine, known as the Merchant's Stone, and is Pleonexus' favorite gem for its belief to bring wealth and success. It also acts as the conduit for his main magic spells. On four of his fingers sits gold rings topped with various colored jewels, smaller gem magic conduits, practically fused with the bone from constant contact and abrasion from the desert sands. His voice is high pitched and raspy, echoing from within the empty caverns of his cranium.

Personality: Driven by greed, lust for power, and personal whim, Pleonexus exists solely for himself. His loyalty and favor are easily swayed to the highest bidder, but considering him a lowly minion or thug for hire could be a costly mistake. Though he is willing to offer his services for a price he is fiercely independent and he always comes first. His ultimate goal is to own all the treasure and magical artifacts that the world has to offer. As such, he is exceptionally greedy and as materialistic as they come. He is abrasive, arrogant, and sarcastic, though he is more than capable of adopting a more pleasant personality if it favors him or the situation. Pleonexus possesses a sharp wit and even sharper tongue, his mind and soul perfectly preserved beneath the sand during his lengthy slumber, though his physical form is weak and brittle. He much prefers using other people to get what he wants anyway. After all, why do something yourself when you can have legions of cronies do it for you?

Background: Pleonexus has no recollection of his past from shortly before the point of his death. Long ago, he was sole benefactor and company leader of a grand expedition into Dry Dry Desert in search of the legendary treasure hold rumored to be buried in the sand. Long after he was abandoned by the rest of the crew, Pleonexus wandered the wastes desperately hunting for a sign of his prize to no avail. He collapsed from heat exhaustion and slipped into black unconsciousness, a welcoming cool sensation against the strength sapping heat of the sky. When he awoke it was without any sense of self or judgement of how long had passed, though it must have been some great time as he was nothing but bone buried deep under the sand. He eventually clawed his way to the surface and took in his new, unfamiliar form. His clothing was tattered, sand beaten and sun worn, his bones bleached white from sitting in the sun in the time prior to being buried beneath the dunes. Despite being unable to remember the vast majority of his history, some things apparently transcended death. He had his name, his personality remained unchanged. He knew what he was after and his fixation on that legendary treasure still burned. Somewhere in this hellish realm there was an untold trove of fabulous wealth and if anyone was going to reap its rewards it was Pleonexus, but he needed help. Though his magic remained, and perhaps new power found in death, this was no ordinary undertaking. He would need people; expendable bodies, yes, but more importantly powerful allies. Plus there was a great deal more treasure out there with his name on it, so he set out for civilization with life and purpose renewed.

Gem Magic and Combat: Pleonexus practices an unusual form of magic that characterizes his greed and materialism. Using his gems as focuses, he can channel spells through his jewelry depending on the size, quality, and type of gem. Because of this, he can cast a wide variety of spells from the rainbow of jewelry fused to his bones and especially from the large gem in his staff. Pleo's casting style is found on versatility instead of raw power. Though he is capable of achieving some amazing feats with a large enough gem, it's not practical to lug around too many heavy rocks. He mostly keeps to the rings on his fingers and his staff for casting spells. In addition, he favors supportive magic rather than offensive magic; buffs, debuffs, and status effects as opposed to fireballs and lightning bolts. To summarize, Pleonexus can cast a wide array of supportive magics across many elements and categories, though he lacks raw power, possesses few direct attacks, and couldn't match a specialist in their own domain due to his preference of versatility to strength. Being a spellcaster, he is also weak in close combat. Below the spoiler is a write up on gem magic and Pleo's main spells.
Spoiler: show
Jewelry: Pleonexus carries his main weapon, a magic staff with a large Citrine gem embedded in the head, as well as the four rings on his fingers.
Citrine: A large, high quality gem, the Merchant's Stone is a deep, earthy amber color (the same as Pleo's eyes) and acts as the conduit for Pleonexus' most common spells. Its element is Earth.
Ruby: Sit's on Pleo's first finger on his right hand. Its element is Fire and produces magic with a red hue. Frequently uses with Amethyst to create electricity.
Sapphire: Sit's on Pleo's first finger on his left hand. Its element is Water and produces magic with a blue hue. He often uses this gem in conjunction with the Merchant's Stone as Water and Earth mesh well.
Amethyst: Sits on Pleo's fourth finger on his right hand. Its element is Air and produces magic with a purple hue. Frequently uses with Ruby to create electricity.
Emerald: Sit's on Pleo's fourth finger on his left hand. The Emerald is used mostly for healing magic, though Pleo rarely heals and mostly uses it to repair himself or his constructs as neither can regenerate naturally.

Name: The Clastic Crusher
Nickname: Clastic (or whatever else may come naturally from the other roleplayers)
Birth Name: Shaledon
Gender: Male
Age: Young Adult
Species: Whomp

Appearance: Like any other Whomp, except with a red granite coloration. He wears a pair of teal boxing shorts.

Personality: The phrase "gentle giant" only half applies to Clastic. Outside of the ring he is jovial, willing to chat with most. But when fighting he is loud, aggressive and enjoys playing things up for the crowd. He rushes into combat with gusto and will rarely turn down a challenge. Clastic has a bit of a temper and can be prone to an outburst in an extremely stressful situation, which tends to only make him more of a fearsome beast in the Glitz Pit. He will absolutely not tolerate anyone who insults him but sometimes will attempt to restrain himself. The track record on that so far is pretty poor. In many cases, Clastic can be considered a pretty nice guy. Clastic does what he does because he loves a good fight, the thrill of testing his mettle against another person, and the fame and glory that comes with victory.

Background: Clastic's parents are successful business owners who own a growing automotive parts company. As heir to the family's livelihood, Clastic faced a lot of pressure in learning the ins and outs of business, entrepreneurship and automotive knowledge. None of these topics ever clicked with him, destroying his confidence as he mentally beat himself up over failing his parents. Fights were naturally an issue for Clastic, or rather, whatever unfortunate soul ticked him off enough to be on the receiving end of a beat-down. The breaking point was reached with a final argument with his parents one night, in which he packed a few things and ran away from home. Growing up he always watched wrestling and other televised fights in awe, particularly the ones televised from the Glitz Pit. He idolized the top wrestlers and wished that he could be just like them. This was his chance to become a wrestling star. Using what remained of his money, he bought a ticket to Glitzville and registered as a fighter with the title The Clastic Crusher. He dominated the competition, but was a little bored of how easy the fights were. This changed when he had his first real fight in the minor leagues of the Glitz Pit. This intense fight had him on the ropes but only brought out his raucousness. It was at that moment that his signature move was born. The Whomplex. Clastic would grab the opponent by the arms (if applicable, otherwise he just grabs them in general) and slings them behind his back. It is then that he lets out a loud shout as he jumps in the air and falls backward, crushing his opponent (with accompanying Whomp sound effect). This move was a crowd favorite immediately and was a sign that Clastic was a rising hotshot. Future fights only brought in more fans as he learned to play it up for the crowd, building up the suspense until he would bring out his deadly signature move. Ahead of him he faces the most important match of his career so far. This match is against a pair of long-standing minor league titans; the Armored Harriers. If he manages to win he will explode in popularity as he joins the major leagues of the Glitz Pit, an important step on his future goal of becoming champion.

If you're going to have this attitude then just don't participate.
I apologize for wanting to have an RP where we have fun instead of just making it completely serious
That still remains as the bigger flaw in this btw, this is literally the only RP available to participate in, it's either this or nothing, and that's never a good thing with RPs
I don't think I feel comfortable with the admins of this forum doing such a thing, it feels like you're trying to create some kind of monopoly, except with the US economy, it's just how you control your forum
I'm not saying you are ACTUALLY doing this, I'm just saying it feels like this

Roleplays can be both serious and fun. Arguably it needs a certain amount of seriousness so that everyone can enjoy it. Though I think when I say serious I really mean dedication, in that everyone puts forth a fair amount of effort to make their characters pretty good (at least in application).

As for the "monopolization" of the roleplays, I can kinda agree that having only one for a while sucks but it'd be a lot of work for Joey to run a few roleplays at once plus having to regulate which role plays get in (because honestly, who wants to see "MARYO AND SONIK FIGHT GO" roleplays littering the place).

That's the thing though, it won't be just Joey running the RPs, but just the game masters as a whole
And let's not assume what roleplays would actually be happening, shall we? Plus there are better ways to regulate how roleplays will happen by regular forumers instead of just prevent regular forumers creating them as a whole
It requires a bit more work yes, but it'll have a much more positive result and will create a better image for the community in bonding together

And thus we circle all the way back around to the fact that the staff do not trust the users and vice versa.

We have a problem on our hands, folks. Not sure why we're even bothering to start up roleplays with such a strict regulation that we have when we can't even cooperate together.

I am actually looking into a way to fix that, though. I will get a way to get us all to work together.

Eh, hopefully we will work out any kinks we see in the system soon. Though I suggest we probably find another thread or just somewhere else to discuss this. Its kind of making a big mess of this thread.

It's not that I don't trust Joey, it's just that Joey's way of running an RP just isn't my kind of thing, and I'd like to have options here
And I'm pretty sure others would also like to have options if they don't like a specific way an RP is run, it's just that simple

so, you've used FIFTY POSTS before coming to the conclusion that we need a thread akin to "We need change." that went to the archives--

okay OKAY I need to just stfu, stop being nosy, etc etc

So to be relevant to the original topic, how would a normal RP work anyway? I've never done this before--wait RIGHT we were gonna do pathfinder and uh

okay someone seriously needs to educate me on how RPGs work rofl

Okay, so like, the Pathfinder dealio is using the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game system, and that's just with you, me, Bomber, Dakras, Bomber's brother I think, and dragonfan96.

A normal forum roleplay works sort of simple, like you just make a character and then roleplay as it or something. It's not as in-depth as Pathfinder, it doesn't really have any combat or actual gameplay of sorts, hence why it's called a Roleplay and not a Roleplaying Game unlike Pathfinder.

Pleonexus and Clastic are approved, and I recommend anyone who wants to design a character to take a look at those.

There are a couple of reasons.

First reason is that I'm not really going to participate in a Marioverse (or any Nintendo universe for that matter) roleplay. While character creation is debatable, meaning that it sort of works out but it also doesn't because there isn't a whole lot you can really do background-wise to create a super exciting and unique character unless you've played the RPG games and understand some bits of story a little more. Another thing is that there is no designated map for the roleplay, and the way Joey said it would work, having one map and then transition to another, is inconsistent and isn't really all that nice. And finally, if this is just going to be a normal average forum roleplay with no exciting elements to it (TUA had some form of combat/ability system which added pseudo-gameplay elements to it), I'm not going to really want to participate in that because eventually it gets bland and has no real story to it. Even if this did have some exciting element to it, I don't know how it would be in the concept of Mario.

To be quite honest, a Marioverse roleplay is really going to get bland and dry. Sure, there could be a few interesting bits, but all in all you can't really do much that would make the experience unique. Almost all of the Mario games follow the titular character, so there isn't too much room for expansion unless you go all out. While I don't deny that the RPG games had interesting stories, they always follow Mario, making it harder to really follow a group of characters that aren't Mario himself. Unless there is some master plan that nobody has been informed about yet, it's sure to be a group of misfits of sort walking around the Mushroom Kingdom.

Second reason is that I'm in the midst of working on a Pathfinder roleplaying group, I'd much rather focus on that than participate in a Marioverse roleplay.

I probably won't join as well, due to only one universe being available. I'd rather all universes available right at the start, as said in my locked thread.
